When it comes to jewelry, I tend to wear only a few pieces on a day-to-day basis. I perpetually slip my wedding and engagement rings (duh) on the fourth finger of my left hand, add my grandma’s antique filigree ring the middle finger of my right, and top things off with a necklace: either a layered charm locket that contains a photo of my sister and me, or a tiny sparkly circle-in-square pendant identical to one I gave to my best friend/maid of honor before my wedding. Not only do I care about the look of my pieces, but also the “story” behind everything I wear. There will be periods of time where I indulge in extra hardware, of course: earrings–only studs; classic diamonds or large faux pearls, or wear my oversized silver watch or the ultra-special toggle bracelet my mom got me for my sweet sixteen. If I’m feeling really crazy, I’ll make a stack with a woven evil eye bracelet, a studded leather wrap, and a knuckle ring. Regardless though, for me to embrace it, jewelry (for the most part) must be simple, dainty, and meaningful. It has to speak to me in some way. If it doesn’t, I’m just not in. It will be banished to a bottom drawer in my jewelry box or sold to Mieux & Mieux, never to be seen again. If I am, feeling a piece, however, it can live in my rotation for years. Right now, when I’m feeling a little fancy and wanting to treat myself, the pieces I’m finding most covetable and inspiring come from Hawaii-based Tidepool Love.
As a saltwater seeker, it’s practically innate that I’d appreciate the ocean motif that flows throughout Tidepool Love’s collections. Their designs feature coral, shells, starfish, sand dollars…even sea glass. The pieces are the perfect combination of simple and interesting–mermaid-friendly charms tempered with dainty design, all featuring precious metals, plus semi-precious stoned and Hawaiian-handpicked shells. Tide Pool Love offers earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and rings. Beauty, simplicity, and beach: For this saltwater gypsy, nothing could be better. It just may be time to treat myself.
